31 Days of Gratitude Challenge
Yesterday, I didn’t forget my gratitude challenge. I ran out of time to write it down, but I made a short video while traveling our country roads.
I am grateful for many things.
Yesterday, Day 3 of my gratitude challenge, I expressed my gratitude for three simple things, but they each involved skills.
I’m thankful that I possess skills, aka tools in my toolbox for relieving pain.
I am a nurse, a mom, and a homesteader. I believe each of these roles contributes to my resiliency and common sense. I don’t say this to boast, but in thankfulness that I can use these skills when needed.
Yesterday, they were needed, as our eldest son was very sick. Whether it was mom skill, nursing skill, or something else, I knew that soup had to me made to share.
A nourishing potato vegetable soup whipped up quickly. Bread from our local bill food store, and tea, electrolyte mix, plus Cuddles, his well-loved teddy bear from childhood—these all seemed essential to me.
Not one to waste a trip in to town, I won the trash lottery and dragged our dilapidated trailer heavily laden with “project trash” to the dump.
Snow began to fall as I unloaded our stinky junk, and I decided that thin rubber gloves were a bad wardrobe choice for the occasion.
One almost completely flat tire later, complete with a change of gloves, I managed to get some air into that tire to get back on the road. It’s only a 30-minute drive, but this day the journey grew longer.
Something about being a mom—when our kids are sick, big or small, we are on duty. I think it’s something God has put in us moms. I see it not matter that age or distance. Once a mom, always a mom. We have friends whose grown son lives in the heart of Africa, yet every time he’s ill, you’d better believe he’s on our prayer list—all because of his caring mom (and dad).
