31 Days of Gratitude Challenge

31 days of gratitude challenge

Well, Friends, this is Day 5 of my gratitude challenge for the month of January. My main problem has been in not writing my blog posts earlier in the day, rather than just at bedtime. Something for me to work on.

Blustery Weather

Today, we had predictions of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and just generally yucky weather. We did see the sleet and some light rain, but that’s about it so far. We shall see what the night unfolds.

What was my point here?

Ah, yes! Cold, miserable weather outside.

I Am Grateful For…

For that reason, I am more grateful than ever for our merry wood stove, that cranks out toasty warm heat as long as we faithfully tend to it.

On our off grid homestead, we have many “alternative” choices. But the most reliable, even before we lived off grid, was the wood stove.

Reminder you can follow this challenge on YouTube!

When the power goes out, our heat does not. That is super important to us.

Warms You 3 Times

As the old saying goes, wood warms you three times: when you chop the wood, when you stack it, and finally, when you burn it. We’d contend that perhaps it’s at least four times, since felling the tree is a separate process as cutting/splitting the wood, and our tree service crew stays busy with dropping plenty of trees!

Wood heat is not instant. Many steps go into the final warmth, and I am thankful also for everyone involved in the process of keeping the wood stove burning.

Finally

I hope that wherever you are, you stay warm. That cold front and Winter Storm that is moving through our nation has a wide path. Hunker down and enjoy the heat inside, and be very careful if you have to go out and about!

Stay safe!

Laurie

  1. How long does the fire burn in your stove before it need to be topped up with more fuel? My experience is typically four hours depending on the hardness of the wood. It is irksome to wake up when the temperature drops and you know it is time to add more fuel. Be thankful to have more fuel.

  2. Gratitude really is the game-changer, isn’t it? I love how you captured the beauty in simple moments—it’s such a refreshing reminder to slow down and appreciate the little things.

  3. Good morning. living off the grid could be fun and I would also be grateful for your wood stove. For me even though its cold here and my son was driving me batty today I am grateful for our Townhome and my family. Although I miss our Trailer with the Fireplace we had to keep stocked with wood. Have a Blessed day and thank you for being a part of the Challenge. Stay warm and safe.

What is your experience? 💜 I read every comment, and so many times I find that I gain encouragement from what’s shared. ❤️
