Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

This week at Ridge Haven Homestead and around our area, we’ve been stormed with the deafening song of the 17-year cicadas!

Our property actually doesn’t have as many as our friends in town have, but they’re out there!

I’m amazed to see the phenomenon of an animal that can hibernate for 17 years, longer than two of our boys have been alive! Then they emerge, eat, mate, while making this big ruckus!

We witnessed these guys in 2004, and these are just as loud as we remember!

If you’ve never heard the roar/screech of the cicadas en force, it’s something to experience at least once!

Here are a few snapshots that I took and a video from my parents’ home today.
