Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

GOOD MORNING to you!

What’s up in your neck of the woods?

In our little haven on the ridge, it’s days of sorting, trying to make home building progress (ourselves), and just work and garden.

Our garden is doing rather pitifully this year, but I do have lots of flowers!

I’m trying to stay on task, and I’ve been listening to podcasters like Clutterbug and the Minimal Mom for inspiration. A thought struck me that I never suspected it, but I might have ADD. Not ADHD, as I’m pretty far from hyper, but staying with things has always been difficult for me. That is compounded exponentially as we’ve lived under the burden of SO MUCH STUFF (that we stored for at least 6 years) to work around. My brain can’t stay on task, because literally everything needs to get done, and I don’t know where to start.

The FlyLady says to focus on progress, not perfection. I’m trying to remember that.

So I’m trying to thin stuff, organize, document, decorate, clean out the camper, and figure out what we can sell all at the same time as living life and try to show up as a human. Never once did I even say gardening, blogging, or creating videos. Not doing the best at that, but today, it’s a day to keep chipping away at it.

Little by little, we’ll get there. 🐌

Let’s keep at it!

God bless!

Laurie

Recent videos over on our YouTube channel have really sparked some conversation.

One thing I asked was

  • What is your opinion on Instant Pots? Being off grid, we have to really think about which energy sucking appliances we use.
  • What is your favorite recent thrift store find? I found some cool stuff, and I show you my recent favorite in the video below.

These are just a couple of our recent homestead videos. If you’re interested in keeping up with our progress and experiences, please subscribe to the YouTube channel.

  1. Your flowers are very pretty, sorry about the garden….this is our first garden in Texas, so much to learn! Thanks for hosting and the feature of my recipe for Creamy Cucumber Salad with Pickled Onions, I appreciate both! Melynda @scratchmadefood!

  2. Laurie,
Since Joe passed away, I have this compulsion to reclaim spaces where he kept things and reorganize them to my liking….I guess I need to make those spaces my own like I did with our bedroom right after he passed away….I guess it is just part of my grief process….
Thanks so much for hosting!! I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into it along with visiting all the links!!
    Hugs,

    1. I don’t understand it perfectly, but my mom did the exact same thing in her bedroom. Somehow that was hard for me, as it seemed to erase Dad. I suppose it must be part of moving on, as well as removing the very intimate reminders to preserve sanity.

Thank you for sharing. It actually helped me.

  3. My dad had ADD (he may have been hyper as a child, but he wasn’t diagnosed until he was 40.) So I do understand your struggle. You’re right, chip away at it, and don’t expect perfection. Personally, I think striving for perfection isn’t healthy for anyone.

What is your experience? 💜 I read every comment, and so many times I find that I gain encouragement from what’s shared. ❤️
