It’s still Fall, and I’m still Loving It!!
For those in the South–aren’t you loving it that Fall has returned to temperate days and chilly nights again? It’s just lovely, so let’s enjoy it while it lasts!
This week we harvested even more tomatoes and some tomatillos from the garden. Not a lot, but enough for me to add in the peppers from last week to make a nice Italian sauce for soups and pasta. I canned up seven quarts–well, six, since one lid failed me.
We’ve had freezing temps, but so far not a really hard freeze, because my basil hasn’t kicked the bucket yet.
Our colors are still nice, but gradually we are inching towards brown forests before they all go bare on us. We have tons of leaves carpeting the ground.
That actually makes our driveway slippery–all those loose, crunchy leaves. We had a terrifying ascent up the driveway last week while pulling our trash trailer. Of course it was dark, and of course Adam, who is sixteen, with his permit, was driving.
We just couldn’t get enough momentum to make it up to the top. That meant we got stuck in the middle, and had to back up with the trailer. I was certainly no help there–I cannot get the hang of backing up a trailer on a flat surface–let alone down the driveway, in the dark, with a ditch on one side and a drop off of the other.
Apparently, Adam also wasn’t up to tackling that. In stepped Andrew, 17, and pretty confident.
Let me just say that no matter how hard nI clutched my side handle, I could still feel the terror of the descent with that trailer flopping behind us. He kept it out of the ditch, and our other choice was the drop off. As he steered the van/trailer closer and closer to that edge, I really started to lose it. Of course he laughed and kept on.
Next thing I knew, he was driving off the driveway into the dark, and I practically fainted, expecting to hear crashing metal and van parts smashing. Andrew drove way off the driveway, and I was wishing I’d have just hiked up the grabbed a spotlight for him.
Well…that kid remembered what I’d forgotten–the pull-off that Greg had made awhile back. So, our venture off the driveway did help us to turn around, and he got that vehicle maneuvered up to the top. We lost a trash can with all the bumping, but no big deal.
Sometimes I think God gave me boys just to terrify me.
Anyway, we are all still alive.
Keep my dad in prayer. He has double pneumonia and of course that’s very serious. He’s had ups and downs, but is so tired. I would be too with pneumonia, and this is just another thing to add to his ailments, so we all want to see him getting better.
Here’s a couple peeks into our Sabbath walk yesterday.
I decided to call this black cat Tubby. Greg calls him Ripper, and the boys call him Blackie. He answers to nothing, so it doesn’t matter what we call him!
Little Bit hiked with me to the top, and deserves a mention. She’s been more personable here lately. Charlie was AWOL til I came down–but he came to check out what we’d been doing at the end.
Have a great week!!
Laurie

Features for this week!
Oh my goodness, Laurie, I could feel your anxiety right through my laptop screen! I totally relate to this…”Sometimes I think God gave me boys just to terrify me.β I have 5 more years before I have to worry about my boys driving cars, but I am pretty certain they will be better at such things than I am! It reminds me of the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song βTeach Your Childrenβ…we have to teach our children well but they also need to teach their parents well. Looks like you all have done all of that! I will be sending prayers and healing energy to your father. I hope he starts feeling better soon.

Hi Laurie. I actually hate to see fall and winter arrive. I much more prefer the hot days of summer as the temps help my arthritis and fibromyalgia feel better. Luckily though it’s still pretty warm here in Alabama. Fall hasn’t quite arrived yet, trees are mostly still green. Thanks so much for hosting. I linked up with #3 Advice from a Pumpkin and #4 Christmas Gnome Giveaway.
Well I can certainly understand that! If I felt better in the heat, Iβd probably think like you do.
For meβthe Fall energizes me!
Thanks for linking up and coming by!
Laurie,
Thanks again for hosting this charming party every week! I know how much time goes into doing so and I want you to know that it I truly appreciate it!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
Hugs,
Debbie
You too!!
My experiences with kids driving have definely been a lot more tame that yourβs! I would have been freaking out!
Keeping the prayers rolling for your precious dad. I hope youβve been able to spend a lot of time with him!
Doing the best we can, trying to juggle it all.
And my boys say I overreact, so who knows? Theyβre pretty good drivers, but Iβm not gonna say they donβt terrify me.
Thanks for another great party and featuring my Thanksgiving prep tips. That is a scary story, glad all is ok. Happy Halloween. XO- MaryJo
Thank you!!
Hi Laurie, I’m sorry to hear about your father’s illness, sending prayers.
Thank you for featuring my stamped concrete!
Thank you for the prayers.
